Wave Skimboards

Wave skimboads have water resistant foam core and fiberglass or carbon as an outer shell. The construction is similar to surfboards, but skimboards are thinner, shorter and don’t have fins. The grip on the board is achieved by applying a layer of wax (just like for surfboards) or foam traction pads – arch bar through the middle to the nose and a tail pad. Wave skimboards also have a rocker (the way in which the board is curved, lifting up its nose/tail and in some models the sides), which can be continues (from nose to tail) or staged (e.g. only nose up) and its choice depends on the model and rider preferences. The length of the board depends on rider’s weight. Typically board height is up to the rider's mid-chest. The boards are typically around 1.5 cm (5/8 inch) - 1.9 cm (3/4 inch) thick and weigh approximately 1-2 kg.

Wave skimboarding ride starts on the beach with a run towards the shore, get on, glide across the water's surface to meet an incoming, breaking wave, and ride it back to shore. The smaller size of a skimboard (comparing to a surfboard) gives greater maneuverability, which facilitates performance of wave jumps and tricks.
